- How long did the repair take?
Two weeks/ 10 working days

800euro
- How was the object repaired?
This sofa was covered by a local crafts person. The old covering was damaged from general wear and tear. The wooden arms and base were repaired and varnished. The cushions were replaced. It was like new again.
- Why did you repair the object?
This sofa was purchased in the 1970s. It has been repaired and covered twice now.
- Why do you think it is important to repair things?
This sofa is of very high quality and very comfortable. Many more modern sofas do not have a high backing with head support, this sofa does. The crafts person came to our home, examined the sofa and advised us on costs. We then visited his workshop to choose material to cover it - it was a positive process.
- What would be important to you to be included in a Repair Declaration for Ireland?
Many local carpenters and craftspeople make more money from building new products. If more people repair older furniture and are prepared to pay for high quality restoration then craftspeople will do this sort of repair work. There needs to be a supportive economy around repair and perhaps an element of learning how the repair is done. Our crafts person was very informative.
- What actions do you think could help Westmeath achieve a vibrant repair culture?
There needs to spaces within towns for such repair activity.
