Restoration of Ardan Wood, Woodland Walk

Dedicated to the preservation of Ireland’s remaining ancient woodlands, The Native Woodland Trust focus on the restoration of Ireland’s original climax ecosystem, through the re-creation of woodlands, using only native seed. Through its membership and volunteer scheme it aims to safeguard ancient woodlands precious habitats from damage via the removal of harmful invasive species and the reintroduction of native trees that have been lost to the locality.

As part of the Repair Acts, Ireland Festival we will explore the beautiful Ardan Wood and discuss its native woodland restoration

Ardan Wood is a beautiful woodland in Co. Westmeath. It is in the shape of a crescent and the middle field and surrounding fields have recently been purchased by the Native Woodland Trust.

Meeting at Ardan Wood on Sunday, 6th Nov at 11.00.

Staff of the Native Woodland Trust will guide the walk and discussion, which shares the ways in which the Trust plan to restore the surrounding land to supporting native Irish, and local, trees.

Tea, coffee and biscuits provided. If you have a reusable coffee cup, please bring this along with you too, as we have a limited number of reusable cups available.

Please carpool where it is possible to do so. Car parking is our limiting factor for the amount of people that can attend.

It is essential to bring warm and waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear.

The path running through this woodland is not paved, it is loose and steep in places. It is also necessary to occasionally climb under and over trees as we are preserving the woodland for nature.
