Repair, Consumption and the Sustainability Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) or Global Goals (GG) are a collection of seventeen, ambitious and interlinked objectives that are designed to serve as a “shared blueprint” for all countries and people can prosper, while also taking care of each other, the oceans and earth, species and plant. Goal 12 focuses on responsible production and consumption. It addresses the realities of how our plant is running out of resources and holds us to account by seeking how we can develop more sustainable consumption and production patterns, which is critical to sustaining the livelihoods of current and future generations.

Connecting to the other workshops of the same name, this event explored Goal 12 with undergraduate and postgraduate diploma students at St. Angela’s Home Economics School, Sligo. Key elements included, links to literature on repair studies, policy and practice around skills, waste and the circular economy with emphasis placed on embodied repair practices and its link to theory.
